Drugs worth Rs 250 crore seized, 3 arrested

Gandhinagar: Drugs worth Rs 250 crore have been seized from Avsar Enterprise located in Ankleshwar GIDC area of ​​Bharuch district in Gujarat. Surat and Bharuch police recovered 141 grams of MD drugs in a joint raid, which is said to be worth Rs 14.10 lakh. While 427 kg of suspected drugs have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for investigation.

The officials have arrested Avsar Enterprise director Vishal Patel and two others. However, the owner of the company is reportedly abroad. This bust is part of a major campaign of Gujarat Police to seize drugs worth thousands of crores of rupees recently.

Earlier, in a similar action, drugs worth Rs 5 thousand crore were seized from Avakar Drugs Limited in Ankleshwar. During the Police Shaheed Smriti Diwas celebrations, state Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi praised the efforts of the Gujarat Police, saying, “This is not just an operation but a war against drugs.”

In May 2024, the Election Commission (EC) released data showing that Gujarat contributed nearly one-third of the total value of narcotics seized in India. The EC reported seizures of narcotics between March 1 and May 18, 2024. The total value of the narcotics seized is Rs 3,958.85 crore, which is about 45 per cent of the total value of all items seized during this period of Rs 8,889 crore. In Gujarat alone, narcotics worth Rs 1,187.8 crore were seized, which is about 30 per cent of the total narcotics seized.
