Manipur: Churachandpur records 36 dengue cases in October

Manipur: Indicating a rise in dengue cases in the district, Churachandpur in Manipur reported 36 positive cases (1-14) in the month of October alone taking the total number of cases in the district to 79 this year; this is as per the records of the concerned authorities of the district. Dengue cases were found in 13 localities that were inside the city and suburbs as well. Several suspected cases were detected on Monday and have been sent for testing, the result of which, if positive, could be even more worrisome given the current situation.

Regarding the alarming rise in dengue cases, the malaria department of Churachandpur district carried out extensive fogging in various localities including Chengkonpang, Zenhang Lamka, Tuibong and Kamdo Veng, where high concentration of dengue cases are being reported. There are two types of mosquitoes that cause dengue and malaria, where experts say that malaria-causing mosquitoes are mostly active between January to June and dengue-causing mosquitoes are more active between June to December of the year.

The fight to control and prevent dengue was led by District Malaria Officer Dr. Liangoumuan Samte, where the initiative was hampered due to lack of funds due to the current crisis in Manipur. So, he did fogging and conducted a case study to control its further spread, however the supply of testing kits has stopped and one can avail the free service only at Krishna Diagnostic inside the district hospital premises, other than that at other diagnostic centres you have to pay from your pocket. So far, there has been no report of any death due to dengue in the district.
