Taapsee Pannu: A perfect blend of rustic charm and Punjabi roots

Mumbai: Stepping into Taapsee Pannu’s vibrant Mumbai abode will instantly immerse you in a world that reflects her Punjabi roots. The rustic charm of her home is unmatched, radiating warmth and authenticity. With red brick walls, traditional jute chapatis and intricately carved jharokhas on the walls, her apartment exudes the feel of a cosy Punjabi haveli.

Taapsee’s sister Shagun played a key role in designing the place, using her expertise as a wedding decor professional. Together, the sisters curated pieces from their travels across India – collecting treasures from regions such as Punjab, Rajasthan and Kutch. “We didn’t call in any professional designers,” Taapsee told a news daily. “Shagun and I wanted every item to have a personal touch, something that was handpicked and had a story behind it.”

What makes this home stand out is its lack of grandeur. Taapsee deliberately steered clear of a grand, showy aesthetic, preferring instead a more grounded, inviting ambiance. “I wanted a home that felt truly Indian—simple but warm,” she shares.

The duplex offers two distinct ambiances. While one floor exudes traditional Desi charm, the other floor has a modern, Western touch, perfect for when she wants something different. “Depending on my mood, I choose where to spend my time,” says Taapsee. “However, my friends are always drawn to the Desi floor—they say it feels like stepping into a Pinterest board, with every corner being picture-perfect.”
