Chandigarh: Case registered against 2 policemen for cheating of Rs 1000

Chandigarh: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Panchkula has registered a case against three policemen in a case of cheating and corruption. According to the FIR, the trio duped a passenger of Rs 1,000 at Jhaloli toll plaza in Panchkula while on duty. The accused have been identified as Exempted Sub Inspector (ESI) Om Prakash, Haryana Home Guard (HGH) Sachin and Special Police Officer (SPO) Surendra. The complainant Additional District Attorney (ADA) Rohit Singla had complained to the ACB that the accused duped him of Rs 1,000 in the name of issuing a challan for speeding. Singla said he was going from Panchkula to Yamunanagar on August 27, 2023 when he was stopped by the police officials and asked to pay Rs 1,000 as a challan for speeding.

He said he paid the amount online by scanning the QR code on his mobile phone, but he was not given a receipt for it. He then complained to the police. During investigation of the case, ACB found that the said transaction was credited to the bank account of Yashpal Sachdeva, a sweet shop owner, resident of Dera Bassi, Mohali. ACB also found that the three accused were present at Jhaloli toll plaza as traffic vehicle interceptors on the said date when the money was transferred from the complainant’s account. The call details collected in the case proved that one of the three accused had also called Sachdeva. ACB found that the trio defrauded the complainant by stopping his vehicle in the name of issuing challan, whereas the department had specifically instructed the officers on duty not to stop vehicles for checking or issuing challan.
