Global tablet market grew 15 percent in the second quarter

New Delhi New Delhi: Global tablet shipments grew 15 per cent (year-on-year) in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, while historically this period has been slow, a report said on Tuesday. According to the latest ‘Global Tablet Market Tracker’ by Counterpoint Research, the market witnessed a boom in the second quarter of 2024 as tech giants Apple and Samsung rolled out new releases compared to last year, while other market players also displayed strong numbers. Research Associate Kevin Lee said the return of market leaders to normal model release schedules indicates an optimistic outlook for 2024 and is a sign of recovering consumer sentiment due to fresh releases from Apple and Samsung.

“Apart from Apple and Samsung, Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Huawei and Xiaomi also drove growth in the tablet market by offering an increasing variety of model offerings, further boosting demand,” Lee said. Shipments in the worldwide tablet market for the rest of this year look promising, including the release of the new Apple iPad and Apple iPad Mini, as well as Samsung’s flagship S series, both expected to be launched in the latter half of the year.

Associate Director Liz Lee commented on the immediate outlook for the tablet market, saying, “As demand remains at healthy levels due to improving macroeconomic conditions, we expect to see increasing contributions from emerging market regions for 2024.” Huawei maintained its position in the top three with consistent model releases. Xiaomi nearly doubled its shipments due to growth in emerging markets, particularly the APAC and MEA regions. “Continued launches from Apple and Samsung will drive growth in H2 (second half) 2024,” the Counterpoint report mentioned.
