Punjab: Couple dies by drowning in Gurudwara Sarovar

Punjab: A couple from Kandila village drowned in the Sarovar of the Gurudwara located in the nearby village of Lil Kalan. Sarpanch Gurnam Singh of Lil Kalan said that he was informed by an employee of the Gurudwara at around 5.30 am that two bodies were floating in the Sarovar. He immediately informed the police. Police sources said that the deceased have been identified as Balwant Singh (48) and his wife Rajwant Kaur (44). Balwant slipped in the Sarovar while bathing. His wife tried to save him, but she also drowned. They used to come to the Gurudwara every day to pay obeisance and also take a bath in the Sarovar. The village Sarpanch informed us and we took out the bodies. They were taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The couple has two sons and a daughter.
