AI: Focus on feminism, pacifist principles
Technology: A group of around 20 people, including scientists, academics, and community members, recently met at a supercomputing center in Barcelona and proposed a manifesto that aims to reimagine artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on feminism and pacifist principles. Launched by the Catalan Artificial Intelligence Supervisory Organization (OEIAC) in collaboration with CREA and BSC, the initiative aims to address fundamental concerns regarding the commercialization of AI technologies.
The manifesto emphasizes the importance of prioritizing societal needs over entrepreneurial ambitions when implementing AI. One of the main concerns was the military application of artificial intelligence, which drew attention to how some companies have become embroiled in conflicts around the world.
Additionally, the document highlights the need for transparency in AI, especially in language models like ChatGPT. It highlights the importance of identifying and reducing bias to prevent discrimination against marginalized communities in the technology sector. Participants supported ethical considerations in the development of algorithms that represent all aspects of society, including feminist and anti-racist perspectives.
In addition, the manifesto calls for democratic governance of AI to prevent monopoly control and empower citizens to use their own data. Experts from various fields believe that this initiative provides a platform for a broad public dialogue about the impact of artificial intelligence on everyday life. The urgency expressed by the Congress reflects a strong commitment to encourage business and industry action to protect human rights in the digital age.
