Chandigarh: Day of celebration for students of university and colleges of the city

Chandigarh: With just two days left for the Punjab University Student Council (PUCSC) elections, it was a grand day for students of the university and some colleges as they were invited to cafes and clubs in Sector 26. While the social media page of a party of Sector 10 DAV College shared posters publicly inviting students to party at the club with free soft drinks and food, invitations for ‘freshers parties’ from two PU student bodies were being circulated on social media. Both these PU parties are supported by mainstream political parties and are also contesting the elections in alliance.

Outside an exclusive club in Sector 26, a huge crowd of students of SGGS Khalsa College in Sector 26 was present and were being allowed in after the organisers checked their Aadhaar and college identity cards. “This is our first year in college and it is an opportunity to enjoy and interact with each other. “We were invited here by a student group of our college,” said an undergraduate student of SGGS Khalsa College while waiting for his turn to enter the club.

Three parties were organised at another club. While the first party was organised by INSO’s DAV College unit in the presence of its candidates, pictures of which were also uploaded on social media platforms, the second and third parties were reportedly organised by two PU parties. “It is convenient to organise different parties at the same club on the same day. Since the food has to be prepared in bulk, the club management also offers discounts,” said a student leader from the PU campus.
