Sikkim CM meets Modi and invites him to State Day celebrations

Sikkim: CM Prem Singh Tamang met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extended a formal invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the State Day celebrations of Sikkim as the Chief Guest on May 16, 2025. The event holds special significance as it marks the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s accession to India, which celebrates 50 years since the state officially became the 22nd member of the Indian Union in 1975. During the meeting, CM Tamang also extended warm greetings and best wishes to PM Modi on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. The discussions were described as in-depth and productive, with various issues pertaining to the state being discussed. The upcoming State Day celebrations will be particularly significant, reflecting Sikkim’s journey over the last five decades. The accession in 1975 was a watershed moment in the state’s history, leading to significant advancements in modern institutions, science and technology, and overall development. The theme of this year-long celebration is “Sunaulo, Samriddh and Samarth Sikkim”, which will depict the history of the state before and after its merger. CM Tamang called upon the people of Sikkim to unite in this grand celebration with the spirit of “Team Sikkim”, and dedicate themselves for the continued progress and prosperity of both the state and the nation.
