Punjab: Case of fraud registered against couple
Fatehgarh Sahib: Fatehgarh Sahib Police has registered a case of cheating against a couple who refused to register a house even after receiving an advance of Rs 9.95 lakh for the agreement. The case was registered following an investigation report by the SP (Investigation). Manpreet Singh Deol SHO Fatehgarh Sahib said that Praveen Kumari, a resident of Ward No. 10, Sirhind, had filed a complaint against Rajesh Kumar of Sirhind. The complainant claimed that she had entered into an agreement on October 5, 2019 to purchase the house of the accused and the agreement was also signed by his wife Shruti. The complainant said that the deal was finalised for Rs 14 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh was transferred to the accused’s account as advance payment.
The date for registering the deed was fixed as March 30, 2020, but Rajesh and his wife did not turn up for the registration, following which the date was extended to April 25, 2020. When the complainant went to the tehsil office to get the house registered, she was told that Rajesh had already sold the house to Sanjeev Kumar and Manmohan Singh and they had got the house registered in the name of Damanjit Kaur. The SHO said that neither did the accused return the advance payment nor did they refund the money to the complainant. The SHO said that the SSP had marked the complaint to the SP (investigation) for investigation and the SP’s report confirmed that Rajesh and his wife had committed fraud by taking advance payment from Praveen Kumari and selling her to someone else.
