Trainee doctor rape-murder: 151 CISF personnel to be deployed at RG Kar Medical College, reached
Kolkata: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has finalised the deployment at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. 151 CISF personnel will be deployed here. CISF has sent its personnel to Kolkata after the Supreme Court order.
As per the information available so far, the entire deployment will be under an officer of the rank of Assistant Commandant, who will be assisted by three officers of the rank of Inspector. However, a state government insider said that there is a little confusion about who will bear the cost of CISF deployment at the hospital. In all likelihood, the state government will have to bear the cost. This is a common practice.
Even when CAPFs are deployed in various states during elections, the expenses are borne by the respective state governments. The CISF had begun preparations for the deployment on Wednesday, with its Deputy Inspector General K. Pratap holding a series of meetings with hospital authorities as well as top Kolkata Police officials. It is learnt that while CISF personnel will be primarily responsible for the inner level security within the hospital premises, the outer security – outside the hospital gate – will remain with the Kolkata Police.
The CISF deployment comes following a Supreme Court directive. The apex court had ordered the deployment of personnel of any Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in the wake of the rape and murder of a woman doctor on the hospital premises. One assistant commandant, three inspectors, three sub-inspectors, 38 head constables and 68 constables have been deputed at the RG Kar Medical College.
Earlier, the CBI on Thursday submitted a status report to the Supreme Court in the Kolkata trainee doctor rape-murder case. A bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud is hearing the matter.
