CHENNAI: Saidapet government hospital to get 200 beds in January

Chennai: Saidapet Government Hospital will get an additional 200-bed facility in January next year, state health minister Ma Subramanian announced on Sunday. Renovation work for the new facility is underway and after completion, the chief minister will inaugurate it. Appreciating the Saidapet GH staff for conducting over 10,000 dialysis at the facility, the minister said the over 100-year-old hospital has so far treated over 3,13,864 outpatients and 75,316 inpatients and performed 2,800 successful surgeries. The hospital has also conducted 9,19,318 blood tests and performed angioplasty on 1,100 patients. Subramanian said 10,076 dialysis procedures have been performed at the hospital.

He said Saidapet GH recently received medical equipment worth Rs 1.20 crore from Rotary Club and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) through CSR funds. The minister switched on the device on Sunday. ‘No monkeypox in Tamil Nadu yet’ Talking about monkeypox cases in Tamil Nadu, the minister said there has been no case of monkeypox in the state. “Union Health Minister JP Nadda has announced that there is no case of monkeypox in India. No one has been found infected with the virus in Tamil Nadu so far. However, as a precautionary measure, passengers are being screened at the international airports in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchi. If anyone is found infected, he or she will be immediately hospitalised. We have directed airport authorities and passengers to be vigilant about this,” Subramanian said.
