8 people arrested for extorting Rs 69 lakh by posing as NIA officers

Zirakpur: Police have arrested eight members of a gang, including two women, who tried to extort Rs 69 lakh from a Sector 39 resident by posing as NIA officers.
The fake NIA team was trying to extort money from Veerpal Singh on the pretext of a land deal in Delhi, which was allegedly defrauded, police said. The suspects were produced in court and sent on police remand, police said. “It has been revealed that the gang was active in the area for some time,” SP (rural) Manpreet Singh said.
