742 Anganwadis are waiting for electricity connection, action taken under special campaign
Maharashtra: After the government ordered to provide electricity connection to Anganwadi centres, a special campaign was launched to connect Anganwadi centres in buildings owned by the Zilla Parishad. Under this campaign, 2288 out of 3030 Anganwadis without electricity connection have been connected in one month, but 742 Anganwadis are still waiting for connection. Under the centrally sponsored Saksham Anganwadi Modernization Scheme, it is necessary to provide electricity connection to self-owned Anganwadis. The work of 5,115 Anganwadis is being looked after by the Women and Child Welfare Department of the Zilla Parishad.
Of these, 4,256 are running in self-owned buildings, out of which 403 Anganwadis have electricity facility. The other 668 Anganwadis have got electricity through solar energy. After observing that out of 4290 self-owned Anganwadis, 3030 do not have electricity connection, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Ashima Mittal immediately directed to start a special campaign for electricity connection. Accordingly, with the joint efforts of Group Development Officer, Child Development Project Officer, Gram Panchayat Officer, Deputy Engineer (Mahaparshvika), electricity supply has been started to 2288 Anganwadis. Chief Executive Officer Mittal has directed to complete the electricity connection of the remaining Anganwadis by January 26. District Program Officer of Women and Child Welfare Department Pratap Patil informed that the work of electricity connection is going on and it is being reviewed daily by the Child Development Project Officer.
