700 grams of gold, over 25K UK pounds seized at Amritsar airport

Punjab: The Customs Department at Shri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport (SGRDI) today recovered 700 grams of gold worth Rs 51,45,000 and 25,900 UK pounds worth Rs 26,91,010. In the first case, customs officials recovered gold biscuits weighing 700 grams.
Officials said that during the search of IndiGo flight number 6E1428 from Sharjah, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department with the help of IndiGo staff recovered a packet containing six gold bars wrapped in gray adhesive tape and One was partially wrapped. Electronic tracker device. This recovery was made from the floor of the toilet at the front of the plane. The gold packet was hidden under the sink area. The total weight of the gold bars was 700 grams. Customs officials said the market value of the recovered gold is Rs 51,45,000. The gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. In another case, customs officials recovered foreign currency from a passenger at SGRDJI airport. Suspicious items like currency were spotted in X-ray during security check of a passenger’s hand luggage by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), officials said. CISF personnel handed over the passenger to Customs staff. During checking of hand baggage, foreign currency of different denominations was found in it. The passenger intended to depart for Delhi by Air India flight AI-480 from SGRDJI Airport for onward journey to London by flight number AI-161 from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. A total of 25,900 pounds sterling i.e. Rs 26,91,010 in Indian currency was recovered from the passenger. The recovered foreign currency was confiscated under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962.
