5 Live Cartridges Seized From Iit Bombay Hostel Bihar Man Link Under Probe

Mumbai: Security personnel found five bullets in a hostel room of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in the capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai. The police were informed. In this context, a man from Bihar was arrested. On February 19, at around 1:30 am, a fight broke out between first-year B.Tech students Suraj Dubey and Aman on the ground floor of Hostel No. 1 over a financial transaction.

Meanwhile, the hostel security staff intervened and pacified the students. However, the smell of alcohol was noticed coming from the student Suraj Dubey and his friend Apurv Mishra. In view of the ban on alcohol in the hostel premises on the campus, Suraj Dubey’s room was checked. The security staff found five live 7.65 mm cartridges in a black bag in his room.

On the other hand, when the security personnel questioned Suraj about the live bullets, he said that the bag belonged to his friend Apoorv. When Apoorv was questioned, he said that the bullets were brought by his acquaintance, 23-year-old Sarvottam Anand Satishchandra Chowdhury from Samastipur, Bihar. He revealed that he had kept the live cartridges inside his bag during his visit to the IIT Bombay campus on February 12. The police were informed and the bullets were seized.

However, on the same day, Sarvottam came to the IIT Bombay campus at night. In this context, the police detained him. When asked about the bullets, he said that he had purchased them in Munger, Bihar. With this, the police registered a case against Sarvottam under sections of the law such as illegal possession and transportation of ammunition. Is there any criminal conspiracy behind bringing live cartridges into the IIT Bombay campus? They are investigating. In the wake of this incident, security has been tightened further on the IIT campus.
