5 accused arrested with weapons in Odisha

Chhatrapur/Bhanjnagar: In a major crackdown on extortion attempts, Odisha police arrested five people with pistols and live ammunition in two separate cases. In the first case, Bhanjnagar police arrested four people on Tuesday and seized a 9mm pistol, a magazine, two rounds of live ammunition, and a country-made pistol.

The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar Swain, Pintu Sethi, Subhash Chandra Padhi, and Balkrishna Bisoyi.

Police said they caught the gang while they were plotting to extort money from villagers by threatening them at gunpoint.

Similarly, Kodala police arrested an accused, identified as Om Swain (21), of Phasi village. Police recovered a country-made pistol and three live cartridges from him.
