43-year-old man’s body found hanging

The body of a 43-year-old man, known locally as an ascetic, was found hanging from a tree near a Kali temple in Birbhum’s Suri on Sunday morning.

Police recovered the body of Bhuban Mondal, also known as Swami Bhabananda, originally a resident of Khoirasol’s Pachra village.

The deceased had been staying in a hut near the Kali temple for a decade.

Chandan Mondal, his brother, lodged a murder complaint against three persons, including a member of the Kali temple committee.

Police detained a woman, who allegedly used to stay with the deceased, for interrogation after recovering a suicide note.

“The body has been sent for an autopsy. A probe started after we got a complaint from the brother of the deceased,” said Birbhum SP Bhaskar Mukherjee.
