40 Royal Bengal tigers present in Odisha’s Similipal: CWLW Prem Kumar Jha

Bhubaneswar: There are 40 Royal Bengal tigers in Similipal of Odisha, informed PCCF (Wildlife) and CWLW, Odisha Prem Kumar Jha on Friday.

There are 40 Royal Bengal tigers in Similipal. Out of this, six are tiger cubs. This has been clarified from camera traps this year, Jha informed.

He said that apart from Zeenat and Yamuna, out of the adult tigers in Similipal, there are 13 male tigers and 17 tigresses. It is not clear whether the other two tigers are males or tigresses.

Similarly, out of the tigers in Similipal, 18 are black tigers. The forest department aims to increase this number to 100 in the next 10 years, he said.

It is to be noted that Odisha government invoking its powers under Section 35(4) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 accorded the ‘National Park’ status to the Similipal on Thursday.
