3,876 Buses Operated from Chennai During the Holidays; Over 2.13 Lakh Passengers Traveled

Tamil Nadu: To ensure passenger convenience during the May Day and Chithirai Pournami holidays, a large number of government buses were operated from Chennai. During this period, a total of 213,180 passengers traveled using 3,876 buses.
This information was provided in a press release issued by R. Mohan, Managing Director of the State Express Transport Corporation. He stated that, in view of the increased passenger volume resulting from the festivals and holidays, special bus services were arranged by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations.
According to the press release, a total of 3,876 buses were operated from Chennai to various destinations on April 30 and up until 3:00 AM on May 1. This fleet included 2,092 regular buses and 1,784 additional special buses, which were deployed specifically to handle the extra passenger rush.
Officials noted that the objective of these bus services was to provide passengers with a smooth and safe journey, thereby avoiding overcrowding and inconvenience during the holiday period.
R. Mohan stated that, during this period, a total of 213,180 passengers utilized these buses to reach their respective destinations. He further mentioned that additional staff members were deployed at various bus terminals to ensure the orderly management of bus operations.
Typically, the number of passengers traveling out of Chennai increases significantly during festivals and long holidays. Anticipating this trend, the Transport Department had formulated a plan for additional buses in advance to ensure that passengers received timely service.
According to officials, this arrangement provided significant relief to passengers, sparing them from having to rely on private vehicles or expensive alternative modes of transport. These bus services were operated primarily to various districts and major cities across the state.
The Transport Department has affirmed that it will continue to operate additional bus services on similar occasions in the future to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience and can reach their destinations with ease.
