22-year-old Bhaker ends India’s 12-year Olympic medal drought

22 Year Old Bhaker: History was created as India’s Manu Bhaker won the country’s first medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol final on Sunday. Manu Bhaker finished her run after 22 shots, scoring 221.7 points, and fell just 0.1 points short of overtaking second-placed Yeji Kim. With her bronze medal, the 22-year-old Bhaker ended India’s 12-year Olympic medal drought in shooting, and also became the first female shooter to win a medal in the same event for India. Bhaker started the first series with an eye on the prize and shot 50.2 from her five shots, moving herself into second place, just behind South Korea’s Ye Jin Oh, who shot 52.2. The Indian kept her composure and almost replicated her first series in her next five shots, scoring 50.1 in Series 2 and a total of 100.3. But, both Ye Jin Oh and Kim Yeji of South Korea overtook Bhaker, moving her to third place by the end of the five-shot series. The battle between the top three began as they moved ahead shot-by-shot, with Bhaker, Ye Jin and Kim all changing positions in Stage 2, where single shots were played. In the 21st shot, a medal-winning one, Bhaker overtook Kim Yeji by 0.1 points, but Yeji overtook her in the 22nd shot to move to second place by 0.1 points.
