19 villages in Malkangiri cutoff due to massive landslide

Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, due to severe and incessant rains since almost a month, there has been a landslide in Malkagiri. As many as 19 villages have been cutoff from the rest of the world due to this landslide.

The landslide has completely left 19 villages marooned, said reports. Due to continuous rains, the restoration work has become very slow. It is worth mentioning that Malkangiri has received the highest rainfall in Odisha since the advent of monsoon to the state.

Earlier today there had been a landslide in Lamtaput of Koraput. This has been due to incessant rain in Lamtaput block and Nandpur block of Koraput district in Odisha.

There has been continuous rain since almost 20 days in Lamtaput block and Nandpur block. Due to the rain, the road has been blocked by soil and trees have fallen at various places on the main road connecting Jeypore to Lamtaput.

The fire department has cut the trees on the road and is busy cleaning the road. In the last 24 hours, 949 mm of rain has been recorded in Koraput district, while 136 mm of rain has been recorded in Nandpur block and 15 mm in Lamtaput block. Further detailed reports awaited in this matter.
