17-year-old gang rape victim commits suicide
Uttar Pradesh: Due to the poor working style of the police in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old gang rape victim has committed suicide by hanging herself in her house. Two boys living with the victim in the village kidnapped her and took her to Delhi. After gang raping her, both of them threatened her not to tell anyone about this and left her some distance away from the village. When the victim reached her home, she committed suicide.
The family of the deceased alleges that the police did register a complaint. But due to lack of timely action, the family of both the accused started pressuring them to compromise and started threatening to kill them. Fearing all this, the deceased committed suicide by hanging herself in the house. There is mourning in the family after the girl’s suicide. The family demands that strict action should be taken against both the accused in the case.
Regarding the incident, the Kannauj district SP said that the matter is of July 11. The family of a 17-year-old minor girl from Thana Saurikh area had filed a missing complaint. The girl was found on 14 July. The girl’s statement was recorded in the court on 18 July. But on 23 July, the girl committed suicide. Police have arrested one of the two accused who were absconding in the case. At present, the search for the other is on.
