16 injured when school bus carrying 30 students overturns in Ranchi, Jharkhand

Jharkhand: A school bus carrying 30 students overturned in Chund of Mandar block of Ranchi on Saturday morning, injuring 16 children.

According to police sources, the driver was talking on the phone when the bus went out of control and overturned in a field at around 7.30 in the morning.
Mandar police station in-charge Rahul Kumar said, “One student had to undergo an MRI scan at RIMS in Ranchi due to head injury, while the other was discharged after medical treatment at Constant Livens Hospital in Mandar.”

The police officer said that after the incident, the driver fled from the spot and the local villagers broke the door of the bus and took out the students.

Mandar MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey, who visited the hospital and school, said she has written to all the schools in her constituency
Hiring buses or appointing drivers after careful scrutiny of their documents.

Some parents, on condition of anonymity, claimed that the driver was speeding as the bus was running 45 minutes behind schedule.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has expressed concern over the accident and directed the administration to ensure proper medical treatment to all the injured students.
