11 mobiles seized from Ludhiana Central Jail

The industrial hub witnessed two major fire incidents on Sunday morning, one at a wooden waste godown at Neechi Mangli and the other at a hosiery in Industrial Area A near Cheema Chowk.
According to the information, the fire broke out in the wooden waste godown at 5 am. The boundary wall of the godown was of bricks while the roof was made of iron sheets. Some laborers were sleeping under the shed when the fire broke out but they managed to save their lives.
After which the employees called the fire brigade. Due to the intensity of the flames, the firemen had a lot of trouble in extinguishing the fire from the front gate. Later, they brought in a JCB machine, which brought down the side walls of the godown. It took firefighters more than five hours to completely bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The warehouse housed a large stock of wood waste in sacks, which was supplied to industries as a raw material.
In another incident, a fire broke out at Makkar Knit Fab Hosiery in Industrial Area A near Cheema Chowk this morning. The fire broke out around 5.45 am. Due to strong fire safety arrangements in the factory, the employees present on the spot tried to douse the fire at their own level. Later the fire brigade was informed. Within minutes, fire tenders reached the spot.
According to information, hosiery was made in the three-storey building and the fire broke out on the ground floor. After almost six hours of struggle, more than 25 fire engines were used to control the fire.
Sources said though goods worth lakhs were gutted, the factory workers managed to shift some of the stock to a safer place. Short circuit was said to be the cause of the fire.
