The accident occurred when a boat capsized in the Yamuna River. The deceased included pilgrims from Ludhiana, while another person is said to be a local resident. Around 20 people were on board the boat at the time of the incident, and it capsized due to a sudden strong current and the boat’s imbalance. Upon learning of the incident, local administration, police, and rescue workers immediately arrived at the scene. They attempted to rescue the remaining passengers from the water with the help of divers and boat crews. Many people were rescued during the rescue operation, but 10 people could not be saved. The police also stated that the cause of the boat capsize is being investigated and if any violation of safety rules is found, strict action will be taken. Local officials attributed the accident to overcrowding and the boat’s capacity being overloaded.
